Steps Forward: Buffers

Some work from 2003, with buffers and line drivers, the Type EF and EF2. These dual complementary emitter follower circuits were motivated by 1970s Tektronix instrumentation circuit designs. In terms of bandwidth, these circuits far out-perform most ICs. But they do use more power, and have some DC offset. Not a problem to drive 50Ω loads, they can even drive ±15-20Vpp, into 50Ω. My goals at the time were finding higher-impedance buffers for VCO integration capacitors, aa well as considering 600Ω line-drivers, for short-proof drivers from 600Ω, offering high-performance module outputs. Later studies suggest these circuits do not have ultra-low THD.
