The Phase-Splitter: Single-Ended to Differential Alternative

The need for balanced circuit signalling was emergent for my ideas in using heterodyning for frequency synthesis. These techniques would involve AC-coupled circuits, and had no DC accuracy requirements. In addition to using translinear techniques, I’d studied several Tektronix instrumentation circuit designs for this function. When operating over a moderate range of frequencies that does not include DC, there is an awesome circuit design that performs precise balanced (paraphase) conversion — using a single transistor!
